Dear Friends, Christian Greetings from all of us here at Bishop McAllister College! We are now well into a very busy second term. Students and staff returned from a much needed rest, the last week of May. For the football team as you know there was no rest this past holiday. With a lot of excitement and anticipation as soon as the term ended they headed to northern Uganda for the national soccer competition for secondary schools. They had a great time and played superbly throughout the competition. With much prayer and faith, and a lot of hard work the team made it all the way to the semi finals, but in the ended finished in fourth place nationally. Fourth place Coca Cola Cup 2008 With the soccer season behind us, it is still a busy term for the students. Senior Four and Senior Six have already completed a set of exams in preparation for national exams in October, with another practice set for the end of July. Other students in addition to their studies are busy in athletics, scouts or preparing for the traditional, music, dance and drama competitions, and last but not least the “Principals Challenge Cup”. Athletics which is an inter-school competition got of to a great start last weekend with our own school sports day. It was a great opportunity for students to show off their talent, and even better opportunity for many of us to sit back, relax and watch. Girls 100 m race Boys 400 m race High Jump One of the encouraging developments so far this year is the greater interest in athletics, particularly long distance running by the girls. There are number of the girls for the first time now training with the hopes of running in the Kampala Marathon in the fall. We wish them success, and in fact one our senior three girls has just recently won her first 15 km marathon sponsored by a local university in the women’s category. We have been so wonderfully blessed this year with many projects under construction to improve the school. At present we are working on classrooms, traditional round house for the school matron and nurse, and dining hall. All this incredibly exciting. We are so grateful for everyone’s support and generosity. The following are photos of the classroom block, and the matron’s house. Next month we will show the progress of the dining hall and even the beginning developments of a primary section (Bishop McAllister Anglican Seminary) here at the college.
