WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE September 2007
Dear Friends, Greetings from all of us here at Bishop McAllister College! Where does the time go? It seems like only yesterday when we were beginning second term, and yet here we are already in the second week of third term! We had a wonderfully busy second term! In addition to studies, there was the District Scout Jamboree, National Junior Soccer Tournament, and the first ever “Principals Challenge Cup”. In an endeavour to promote physical fitness we developed the theme “Fit for Life!” We had already been tackling spiritual fitness, and mental fitness, and now recognized the need to look at physical fitness. With that in mind the “Principals Challenge Cup” was introduced. Staff and students were challenged to run with Principal (yours truly) a 5 km race. The Principal would run individual races with each class, and with the staff. If fifty percent of each group could finish before the Principal they would win a goat for roasting and get to attend the Principals Challenge Cup party at the end of term. (L-Lifting Trophy/ M- Fastest Boys in School/R-Staff Participants ) The event was a great success and a real eye opener for many who found the challenge to not be as easy as they had expected. All the groups were successful in completing the challenge, although most struggled to get fifty percent of their group finished before the Principal (great for my ego). We learned a lot and celebrated in grand style, roasting a cow (9 goats symbolically) with the Senior Four winning the Principals Challenge Cup for second term. Demonstrating a Project Entertaining the Principal The Scouts also had a wonderful time at the District Jamboree, this year coming in second Place! The Climax to the term was when the “Academy Boys”, our junior soccer team boarded the bus to travel to Jinja (the Source of the Nile) for the national under 14 soccer tournament. We didn’t go far in the competition, as their small size was against them, but they had a great time just the same showing off their talent and touring Jinja! Imagine most have never been far beyond their village, but now they have traveled from one side of Uganda to the other! Touring the Source of the Nile and visiting Bujagali Falls “Academy Boys”
“TO GOD BE THE GLORY!” We are looking forward to another wonderful third term, determined to be “Fit for Life”, ready to run every aspect of the race that is set before us. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Special prayer requests are
You are also in our prayers. God Bless! Paul
