NEWS FROM UGANDA! "We are making a difference!" Dear Friends, Greetings from Uganda! The 2009 school year got off to a great start the first week of February. Just as we were about to open and the students about to report, the 2008 results for national exams were released. Our results were very good and caused a great deal of excitement, 25% of our students who had sat national exams had finished in division one. The best news was yet to follow. Shortly after the results were released, rankings of schools were published. Out of more than 1650 secondary schools across Uganda, Bishop McAllister College was ranked 112th. “To God Be the Glory!”
(Back to school and back to the books!)
With that news we were confident that 2009 had great things in store for us. Returning students began to report in the first week of February, and new students began to report the following week. The school soccer team is already off to a good start. In the first weeks of school they became the district champions for the local leagues. The team has a lot of promising and talented players, and we are looking forward to some good matches as the school competitions get ready to begin their season. (The entire school out to cheer the team/ District league Champions)
We send out our congratulations to two members of our teaching staff, Assimwe Alex and Kyoshabire Patience. Alex received his BA in January and Patience in February. (Patience & Family) (Assimwe Alex)
We would like to thank you all so much for your support these past years, your prayers and financial support have contributed much to our success, and have made this ministry possible. As a result so many lives have been made so much better. Recently we had a visit from a former student who completed his studies in 2003. Nuwandinda Comrade, was a student with us for six years, which was made possible by the Child Sponsorship Program. Upon completing his studies Comrade went on to earn a Diploma in Education, and taught English and Literature. Since then Comrade has taught in a a government school, and has gone to become a Lieutenant in Uganda Armed Forces, and is currently teaching in a secondary school on a military base. "To God be the Glory! In these past weeks a young boy, who reminded me so much of Comrade so many years ago, came seeking help, so as to join the school like Comrade. Hannington is his name. He is a little less fortunate than many, but just as determined. While students reported for their first day with new outfits, and fully equipped for boarding school, Hannington reported with everything he owned. A tattered pair of shorts and shirt from primary and his bare feet. "We are making a difference!" (Comrade/Class of 2003; Hannington/Class of 2015) I end this newsletter on a sad note. In February one of former students, Turyahabwe Godwin (Class of 2006) was tragically killed in a car accident. Godwin was pursuing a Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality. We remember his family in our prayers and pray the Godwin rests in peace. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Special prayer requests are
You are also in our prayers. God Bless! Paul
