April 2009

"We are making a difference!"

Dear Friends,

Greetings from all of us at Bishop McAllister College Kyogyera! Yesterday we closed for the end of First Term. What a great and busy term it was for us all. Enrolment for 2009 has reached more than 700 students. Praise God!

For some years now our Annual School Mission usually scheduled for 2nd term has often been forgotten because of the busyness of the school. So this year in an attempt to once again make it priority we held it this first term, before we got caught up in the school soccer competitions. On the first weekend in March our school mission kicked off  with Mr. Twine Anthony speaking to the missions theme... "He will fight for you. Hold your peace". Exodus 14.14. What a great beginning to a weekend, packed with dynamic speakers, many choirs, and wonderful praise and worship. On Sunday the final day of the mission, students from 13 other schools came to participate. More than 100 students and staff renewed their commitment to Christ by the end of the mission. Praise God!

It was only a short time following the mission, that school soccer competitions begun. First there was the zonal competitions where the school team won the trophy having lost no games and having conceded not a single goal. Then it was off to the Districts, where for the fifth consecutive year Bishop McAllister College became District Champions. The team is now packing their bags and getting ready to set of for Coca Cola Cup, the national soccer competitions in Fort Portal on April 24th. We wish them every success!

With soccer competitions over for a short time, we were now ready to observe Holy Week. This year for the first time ever we had an outdoor procession and blessing of Palms, and again for the first time we used the dramatic gospel for the day. All was received with much enthusiasm. Our procession wasn't exactly orderly, but definitely looked like a crowd.

Holy Week was a busy but a wonderful time at the College. More than 200 students joined me in fasting breakfast and lunch throughout the week. Each morning we began with a talk at 6:30 am followed by our usual Chapel Service, and each day at lunchtime there was a speaker. We were greatly blessed throughout, and what a glorious Easter celebration we had. To make Easter that much more special we had a special meal with meat and sodas in our newly roofed dining hall. To God be the Glory for this wonderful new development. No more eating in the sunshine or in the rain. The students are very excited.

"TO GOD BE THE GLORY"

I very excited to announce that there will be a Country Gospel Show hosted by "Classic Country" at Christ Church Cathedral on May 9th, in support of the ministry of Bishop McAllister College.
